These incense burners/ twig holders grew out of the small offcuts and leftover pieces of timber in my studio — bits too small for a bowl, but too beautiful to throw away. I started shaping them into simple forms, letting each piece of wood decide what it wanted to become. Some are rounded, some flat, some carved with soft lines, but all of them carry the grain and character of the tree they once belonged to.

Each one sits with a stone I’ve picked up somewhere along our travels around New Zealand. Most of the time it’s nothing planned just a moment where a rock stands out among thousands, and I’ll pocket it for later. Those stones bring a sense of place to the work beaches, rivers, hill country, farm tracks, and forgotten corners of the coast.

Together, the wood and stone create a small, grounded presence something calm for the home. A simple object, but one that holds a bit of time and landscape in it. Light the incense, let the smoke drift, place a twig and let the piece do what it’s meant to do bring a quiet moment into your space.
